When I discovered that planning permission had been granted to build townhouses immediately next door to me, I was not pleased. I live in the conservation area in Syston and was used to open space – admittedly an overgrown garden – immediately next door.
However, when I met Ian Brown, Projects Director of UCR Construction and Development Ltd., I was reassured. As a company, they deal with small building projects – in my case – three townhouses. From the plans and my discussions with Ian, I could see that the design and materials used met all the specifications of being in a conservation area.
I found the actual process of the build was not the traumatic experience that I had expected. The workmen on site were very considerate of the neighbours; they were local people, were very professional in their dealings and kept me informed of what was going on. Now, some 18 months later, I am left with three townhouses which are in keeping with the area, as well as pleasant new neighbours.
